Town Meeting 2011
The 2011 Annual Service Corp Meeting and Town Meeting was held on Saturday May14th at the High School Cafetorium.

Information from this meeting is included via links below.  ALL lakefront property owners attending, polled at the conclusion of the meeting, indicated they were in favor of raising the breast of the dam, and signing easements to keep costs down.  There were no exceptions identified and no remaining/open questions.

Thank you for attending and for providing us a clear message on the direction you wish us to take on your behalf.

Based on the public support expressed for the lower-cost Flowage Easement approach, packages for each individual lakefront property were mailed on May 23rd.  We are asking for definitive responses by June 21st so we can proceed with DEP.

Q8. I know it is very difficult to buck city hall, but here are some thoughts on the idiot reasoning of DEP.

The situation in Alvin is just off the Gulf of Mexico, a very large body of water subject to hurricanes every year.   Smethport is NW PA near Erie and it is close to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, not as big as the Gulf but sizeable nonetheless.  NW PA does get a lot of lake effect precipitation.     If that amount of rain fell in Smethport in 3 days it must have caused more damage than the Johnstown flood.   Why have we never heard of it?   Could the readings be flawed (1942)?   How great an area was sampled in Smethport (it's fairly rural and the stated amount could have fallen in a very small area just around the sampling station).  There was a very high magnitude earthquake in Japan recently.  There were also high magnitude earthquakes in the St Louis area (madrid fault) in the US, closer than Alvin TX, so why aren't we making the dam earthquake proof as well?.  Probability of an earthquake at IL is very low, but it's happened so it's possible.   (Now I'm mocking the faceless bureaucrat).  We've already been through the remnants of a hurricane in 1972 (my boat filled up with rainwater and sank) but the lake level never got ridiculously high.

Most importantly, if DEP is using this number for Indian Lake, why aren't ALL dams and levees in PA being subjected to the same criteria and mandated improvements?   Maybe they are but it seems we may be being singled out by some faceless bureaucrat for who knows what reason.  At their expense, the Institute for Justice (IJ) sues governmental bodies for indiscriminate use of law all the time. This is an odd case but it seems we may be a victim of discrimination.

Pardon my rant but I am serious about the discrimination issue.
